Celebrating Awesomeness : 100 Years of Singapore Sling

January 31, 2016

The journey started way back in 1917 at Raffles Singapore by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon.Following the turn of century in colonial Singapore, Raffles Singapore was the gathering place for the community and it was common to see the gentleman nursing glasses of gin or whisky.Unfortunately for the ladies, etiquette dictated they could not consume alcohol in public. The talented Ngiam Tong Boon thus saw a niche in the market and decided to create a cocktail that looked like a fruit juice.Masking it in pink he gave it a feminine flair and together with the use of clear alcohol, he cleverly led people into thinking it was a socially acceptable punch for the ladies. With that, the Singapore Sling was born. And today, as Singapore Tourism celebrates the 100 years of Singapore Sling, it was being an absolute honor to be a part of the celebrations at Shangri La's Eros Hotel,New Delhi.
